Heath’s last home game of the season as they welcomed fellow West Sussex side and Sussex Senior Cup finalists, Littlehampton Town (The Marigolds) to The BodyMould Community Stadium on Easter Monday.
Heath made a bright start to the game with Mason Doughty having his goal-bound free-kick deflected for a corner from which Bradley Peters had a right foot shot blocked on the line.
At the other end Scott Kirkwood saw his right foot shot from a free-kick go narrowly wide of the post and Evan Hoarty tried his luck with a right foot shot from distance that was gathered comfortably by Bears goal-keeper Alfie Hadfield.
On 15 minutes Heath had a strong penalty claim waved away by the Match Referee when Doughty was brought down in the box when he was about to turn a Louis Evans cross in from a yard. However there was no doubt about Heath’s second penalty claim on 28 minutes when Kirkwood bundled Evans over in the box and Mark Goldson stepped up to convert the resulting spot kick.
Heath made it 2-0 on 36 minutes when Callum Dowdell broke away down the left flank and crossed the ball into Goldson with his back to goal and 12 yards out, the Heath striker turned on a sixpence and struck a right foot shot into the roof of the net to bring his season tally for Broadbridge Heath to 21 goals from 34 games.
Minutes later Sean Terry played a pass between two Littlehampton defenders to allow Mason Doughty to run through and hammer a right foot shot into the net to make it 3-0 at the break.
Heath made it 4-0 20 minutes into the restart when Matt Hay ran at the Marigolds defence before clipping a right foot cross to the far post where it was met by Louis Evans diving header.
After that chances were few and far between, Adam Adam was unlucky with a right foot free-kick that was deflected inches wide of the post and Kyle Sim headed a corner over the crossbar but it remained 4-0 at the final whistle, Heath’s biggest win of the season as they move up to 12th place in the division.
The Bears last game of the season is away to Deal Town on Saturday 26th April, this will also be the last time we see club captain Andy Waddingham play. Wadders is retiring after 30 years with the club having started at the age of 6 years old, he went on to play at every youth level, the Reserves and made his first team debut at the age of 16, he will be missed.
