Broadbridge Heath Under 23’s welcomed Storrington U23s to The BodyMould Community Stadium on a pleasant Thursday evening when for once it wasn’t raining.
The Swans are a new team formed this season and they’ve had a mixed start to their debut season winning two but losing three of their opening five league fixtures but they came into this game on a high having won their last outing 3-0 at Oakwood.
Heath got off to a great start taking the lead in the 4th minute when Adam Al Meskin delivered a low left wing cross into the path of Eugene Moteane who struck it first time in his stride from 8 yards giving the Storrington keeper no chance of stopping.
Despite creating several good goal scoring opportunities, with Lewis Wraight coming closest with an effort from distance that struck the Storrington post before going out to safety, the second goal didn’t arrive until the 36th minute and again Al Meskin was involved down the left flank, linking up well with Charlie Cranfield who played the ball inside to Safwan Ahmed and the Heath striker took a touch and then blasted a right foot shot from 25 yards that flew into the net.
Two soon became three when Luke Bridgeman intercepted a pass wide on the right by the halfway line and the defender advanced towards goal, exchanged passes with Jack Hayes who picked out an unmarked Ahmed who coolly converted from 8 yards for his second of the night and his team’s third.
Keanin Louw completed a mad 3 minute spell scoring Heath’s fourth in the 38th minute when he received the ball from Al Meskin in the ‘D’ and beat three Storrington defenders before rifling in a low left foot shot across the goal into the bottom right corner.
The action then switched to the other end when Heath defender Charlie Mark slipped on the wet surface allowing the Swans striker to run through on goal and he picked his spot to fire home past Ollie Courtney to make it 4-1 at the break.
Heath started the second half on the attack and added a fifth goal 7 minutes into the restart and it was that man again, Saf Ahmed completing his hat-trick with the best goal of the night when he received the ball some 30 yards from goal and unleashed a fierce right foot shot that flew into the net to make it five goals from six appearances for the Bears.
Heath went on to dominate the game for long periods and at times it looked like a training session of attack versus defence with the Swans never say die attitude and they continued to put in a shift to deny the Bears any further goals.
Next up for the Bears is an away SCFA Under 23 Cup match on the 16th October when we travel to play AFC Uckfield; Kick Off 7.45.
