On a fresh sunny morning on the out skirts of Brighton Broadbridge Heath were dumped out of The League Cup by a well prepared Vardenians side.
It all started very well when Tom Shergold after just 90 seconds caught the home side napping and blasted the visitors into the lead (0-1).
Varndeanians didn’t panic and relentlessly pressed BBH hard for the remainder of the half quickly levelling the score (1-1) then soon after taking the lead (2-1).
BBH were bombarded and defended brilliantly until against the flow of play striker Joe Humphries popped in an equaliser on 44 minutes (2-2).
After the break the visitors had more of the game sharing possession for most of the half and just after the restart BBH striker Joe Humphries came just millimetres from scoring his second goal of the game and was unlucky to have a goal disallowed when the home team’s linesman deemed a foul had been committed.
The 2nd year Vardenians team were to be fair the stronger and more organised of the 2 sides and deserved their 4-2 victory.
The young Broadbridge Heath side gave a good account of themselves showing a good team spirit even though things weren’t going their way.
We wish Vardenians well in the competition and look forward to travelling to play them again in the League.
Thanks to John the BBH linesman for carrying out his duties fairly
